The Panchkula Police have arrested three alleged drug traffickers and seized narcotics worth nearly Rs 31 lakh within 24 hours under its ongoing Operation Maidan 2.0, a special campaign aimed at making the district drug free. The recovered contraband included more than 4 kg of opium valued at Rs 21 lakh and 50 grams of heroin worth around Rs 10 lakh. All three accused have been remanded to four days of police custody.

The operation was carried out by different crime units under the supervision of DCP Crime and Traffic Amarinder Singh as part of the anti narcotics campaign launched by Police Commissioner Pankaj Nain. Acting on specific intelligence, the Crime Branch Sector 19 team intercepted a rented auto near the Sector 28 graveyard and arrested Raj Kumar alias Nanouri of Badaun and Sanjay of Bareilly, both currently residing in Panchkula. Investigators said the consignment had been brought from the Haryana Uttar Pradesh border and was intended for distribution across the Tricity region.

In another operation, the Anti Narcotics Cell arrested Karan, a 21 year old resident of Chandigarh, near the Sector 28 cremation ground with 50 grams of heroin, a mobile phone and Rs 1,200 in cash. Police said the heroin was valued at around Rs 10 lakh in the illegal market. The accused has been remanded to police custody until June 29 as investigators continue efforts to trace the alleged main supplier.

As part of the intensified drive against drug trafficking, police teams also conducted extensive search operations in Indira Colony and Rajiv Colony with the assistance of sniffer dogs to identify suspected drug related activities and dismantle trafficking networks.

Police Commissioner Pankaj Nain said the campaign against drug smugglers will continue with full force and appealed to residents to immediately report any information related to illegal drug activities so that strict action can be taken.
