Zepto, the Indian quick commerce startup, has become the second most downloaded app in the Food and Drinks category globally, trailing only McDonald’s, according to Sensor Tower data. The company’s growth surged by 300% in the latter half of 2024, spurred by the introduction of its “buy now, pay later” feature. This innovation helped Zepto surpass Blinkit in average monthly users by Q4 2024.
Zepto raised $350 million in November, adding to its $340 million funding round in August, bringing its total funding to $1.95 billion, the news outlet Business Standard reported. In India, the Food and Drinks category saw 353 million downloads in 2024, a 43% increase from the previous year. Indian downloads accounted for over 16% of global app downloads, with a 21.7% increase in sessions. Indian apps dominated retail as well, with Meesho and Flipkart appearing in global top-10 lists.
