Chandigarh, December 12
Punjab’s Vigilance Bureau (VB) arrested Gurmeet Singh, a Motor Vehicle Inspector (MVI) in Patiala, and his associate Anil, a private individual, on Thursday while accepting a ₹14,000 bribe.
An official spokesperson revealed the arrests followed a complaint by Dinesh Kumar, a document writer based at the District Administrative Complex in Patiala. Kumar alleged that Singh demanded bribes through Anil for vehicle fitness approvals and driving license tests.
A preliminary inquiry confirmed the allegations, prompting a VB team to conduct a trap operation. Both accused were caught red-handed accepting the bribe in the presence of official witnesses, and the money was recovered.
A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered at the VB police station in the Patiala range. Further investigations are ongoing.
