Panchkula, June 17
Two alleged associates of the Rohit Godara gang were arrested after a police encounter in the Alipur Industrial Area of Barwala in Panchkula district on Wednesday, officials said.
Addressing a press conference, DCP Crime Amarinder Singh said the accused were wanted in connection with a kidnapping and robbery case reported in the Pinjore police station area on June 15. Police had already arrested two suspects in the case, while the remaining two were apprehended following the encounter.
According to police, the four accused allegedly kidnapped a man, robbed him of ₹17,000–18,000 and took away his mobile phone before fleeing. An FIR was subsequently registered under relevant sections related to kidnapping and robbery.
Singh said a Crime Branch Sector-19 team received information that the two remaining suspects were present near Alipur in Barwala. When police moved to arrest them, the accused allegedly opened fire on the police team.
“The accused fired two rounds at the police. Due to the bulletproof jacket worn by the police officer, no injuries were caused. Police retaliated and fired three rounds, two of which struck the accused in their legs,” Singh said.
The injured suspects were identified as Yogesh Kumar and Deepesh Kumar, residents of Bhiwani and Charkhi Dadri districts of Haryana. Both were taken into custody and admitted to Civil Hospital, Sector 6, Panchkula, where they are undergoing treatment.
Police said a pistol and two live cartridges were recovered from the accused during the operation. A Scorpio vehicle allegedly used by the suspects was also seized.
According to investigators, both accused have criminal records. Deepesh has previously been booked in kidnapping and assault cases, while Yogesh faces several criminal cases in Gurugram, including offences under the Arms Act.
Singh further claimed that Yogesh had links with the Rohit Godara gang and was allegedly involved in supplying weapons. Police are investigating whether the accused were planning any further criminal activities and whether they were involved in other offences.
“After their medical treatment, the accused will be formally interrogated. Further disclosures are expected during questioning,” Singh said.
Police stated that all four accused connected to the kidnapping and robbery case have now been arrested within 48 hours of the incident.
