Kolkata, May 8
Senior BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari was on Friday elected leader of the BJP legislature party in West Bengal, clearing the way for him to become the state’s first chief minister from the BJP. The announcement was made at a meeting of newly elected BJP legislators in Kolkata, where Union Home Minister Amit Shah formally declared Adhikari’s name in the presence of senior party leaders and MLAs.
The swearing-in ceremony of the new BJP government will take place at Brigade Parade Ground on May 9.
