Shimla, April 14
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Tuesday expressed grief over the brutal murder incident in Sarkaghat of Mandi, and said strict action will be taken against the accused. The Chief Minister said the accused has already been arrested, and the Director General of Police had been earlier directed to ensure strict action in the case. He said the government stands firmly with the victim’s family and will ensure the accused is given the harshest punishment under the law. He added that women and daughters in Himachal Pradesh are safe and that the police acted swiftly after the incident by apprehending the accused. Sukhu further stated that the investigation is being carried out with full seriousness and sensitivity.
Separately, the Chief Minister clarified that Kamla Nehru Hospital in Shimla is not being shifted. He said only the gynecology department is being relocated to improve patient convenience, adding that the decision has been taken in the interest of better healthcare services. He also dismissed speculation regarding any proposal to construct an MLA hostel at the KNH site, saying the government has no such plan.
On the Chester Hill matter, Sukhu said he has ordered an inquiry through the Deputy Commissioner. He added that action will be taken only after a detailed examination of facts and that the government maintains full oversight over officials and administrative decisions.
