The Chandigarh Police has constituted a six-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Pushpendra Kumar to probe the FIR registered in connection with the suicide of Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Y Puran Kumar.
According to an official order issued by Chandigarh Police, the SIT will investigate Case FIR No. 156/2025 registered at Police Station Sector-11 (West) under Sections 108/3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and 3(1)(r) of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

The SIT has been tasked with conducting a prompt, impartial and thorough investigation. Its work will include evidence collection, witness examination, taking expert opinions, legal advice and preparing a final report within a set timeframe. The order further states that the SIT may co-opt other officers or experts if required.
The probe comes amid growing public attention and calls for accountability following the senior officer’s death.
