Fatehgarh Sahib, June 22

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Sunday announced that the first installment under the state government’s Maavan Dheeyan Satkar Yojna will be credited to eligible women beneficiaries on July 1. Addressing a Lok Milni programme at Chanarthal Kalan village, Mann said beneficiaries will receive financial assistance for three months in the initial payment, while also assuring that no genuine voter will be removed during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision process.

Under the scheme, women from the general category are entitled to a monthly financial assistance of Rs 1,000, while women from the Scheduled Castes category receive Rs 1,500 per month.

Mann said the first installment will cover three months of assistance. As a result, Scheduled Caste women beneficiaries will receive Rs 4,500, while women from the general category will receive Rs 3,000 directly in their bank accounts on July 1. The Chief Minister said beneficiaries would receive mobile notifications once the amount is credited to their accounts.

He added that the Punjab government has allocated Rs 9,300 crore in the state budget for implementing the scheme. Mann said the initiative is aimed at strengthening the dignity, confidence, and self-respect of women across the state. Women aged 18 years and above who are registered voters in Punjab and possess valid Aadhaar and Voter ID documents reflecting Punjab residency are eligible to avail of the scheme’s benefits.

However, certain categories have been excluded, including serving or retired employees of the Central Government, state governments or Union Territories, Members of Parliament, Members of Legislative Assemblies, ministers and their spouses. The financial assistance scheme was among the key promises made by the Aam Aadmi Party ahead of the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections.

During the programme, Mann also addressed concerns related to the ongoing Special Intensive Revision exercise and said his government would not allow any genuine voter to be removed from the electoral rolls. He alleged that attempts could be made to misuse the process to delete valid votes and asserted that the state government would remain vigilant to safeguard the rights of genuine voters. Taking a swipe at opposition leaders, Mann said public representatives should remain accessible to people and claimed his government remains available to citizens around the clock.

With the first installment scheduled for disbursement on July 1, the Punjab government is set to begin implementation of one of its flagship welfare promises. The scheme is expected to benefit a large number of women across the state while reinforcing the government’s focus on financial support and social empowerment.
