Chandigarh, April 13
The Punjab Assembly on Monday paid tributes to victims of the Mathura boat tragedy, playback singer Asha Bhosle, and former state finance minister Lal Singh during a special session, with members observing a two-minute silence in their memory.
During the session, members remembered Bhosle, who passed away on Sunday at a Mumbai hospital at the age of 92. The House also paid respects to Congress leader Lal Singh, who died on March 28.
The Assembly mourned 13 pilgrims, mostly from Punjab, who lost their lives when a boat capsized in the Yamuna River in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, on April 10.
Obituary references were made in the House, recalling the contributions of the departed and expressing condolences to their families.
The Assembly’s tribute reflected collective grief over the loss of lives and acknowledged the contributions of those who passed away, while members stood in silence to honor their memory.
