Patiala, June 15
Patiala Police have claimed to have arrested five members of an alleged criminal gang who were reportedly planning to execute robbery incidents in the region. Police said 10 pistols were recovered from the accused during the operation.
Addressing a press conference at the Patiala Police Lines, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Varun Sharma said the CIA Patiala team acted on specific information received during patrolling in the Urban Estate area and successfully apprehended the five suspects.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Arshdeep Singh, Jatinder Gupta, Yashvaidh alias Yoddha, Abhishek, and Akhil Ahmed.
According to SSP Sharma, the accused were allegedly planning to commit a major criminal incident together, but police teams intervened in time and arrested them on the spot before the plan could be executed.
“Based on intelligence inputs received during patrolling, the police team acted swiftly and managed to arrest the suspects along with illegal weapons,” SSP Sharma said during the press conference.
Police stated that the five accused would be produced before a competent court to seek police remand for further interrogation. Officials said more significant revelations are expected during the investigation.
SSP Sharma further stated that preliminary investigations have revealed alleged links between the arrested youths and the Bhubbi Rana and Goldy Dhillon gangs.
Further investigation into the matter is underway.
