Patiala, June 24

A woman, identified as Raman Deep Kaur, remains missing after a car carrying her and her husband allegedly fell into the Bhakra Canal near Pasiana police station in Patiala. Police have arrested her husband, Happy Singh, an army personnel, in connection with the case.

According to the police investigation, one person was rescued from the vehicle after the incident and was taken to a nearby police station. Following the initial investigation, a case was registered against Happy Singh based on Gurjit Singh’s statement.

The FIR states that Happy Singh and Raman Deep Kaur had married in 2024. The couple had reportedly been living in Sangrur for the past two to three months. Police allege that while travelling from Sangrur towards Samana, Happy Singh suddenly drove the car into the canal and managed to swim out, while Raman Deep Kaur remained trapped inside.

The woman’s body has not yet been recovered. Police teams, including divers, have been deployed to search the canal.

According to the FIR, tensions had developed within the couple’s marriage. Police said that whenever Happy Singh went on leave, he would travel to visit his parents in Mansa. Raman Deep Kaur reportedly wanted to accompany him and spend time at her in-laws’ home, but Happy Singh was unwilling to take her along. Investigators said relations between Raman Deep Kaur and her in-laws were strained, leading to frequent disagreements and arguments between the couple.

The Police have further stated that differences existed between Happy Singh’s parents and Raman Deep Kaur, and this is being investigated as a possible motive behind the alleged crime.

The accused husband has been taken into custody, while further investigation into the matter is underway.
