Panchkula, April 28
Ahead of the Panchkula Municipal Corporation elections scheduled for May 10, the police have implemented extensive multi-layer security arrangements to ensure a peaceful, fair and transparent process.
DCP Panchkula Srishti Gupta said strict vigil is being maintained to prevent any unlawful activity. Five inter-state border check posts along the Punjab, Chandigarh, and Himachal Pradesh borders are under round-the-clock surveillance, along with continuous checking drives within the city.
She said Section 163 has been in effect since April 13, requiring all licensed weapon holders to deposit their arms. Individuals likely to disrupt law and order are under close watch.
Police have also seized 538 grams of heroin, over one kilogram of charas, 180 boxes of illegal liquor, two country-made pistols and live ammunition since the Model Code of Conduct came into force.
Gupta said additional police deployment, including outside forces, will be ensured before polling day, with intensified monitoring in sensitive areas to maintain order and public confidence.
