Chandigarh, May 14
BJP national general secretary Tarun Chugh on Thursday welcomed the Center’s decision to increase the Minimum Support Price for 14 Kharif crops for the 2026–27 marketing season, saying the move will significantly benefit farmers, including those in Punjab. The Center has raised the MSP for paddy by ₹72 per quintal. It has also announced higher increases for pulses, oilseeds, and cotton with the aim of promoting crop diversification and reducing dependence on imports.
Under the revised structure, MSP for common and Grade A paddy has been fixed at ₹2,441 and ₹2,461 per quintal, respectively. The MSP for cotton has also been increased, with the medium staple variety at ₹8,267 per quintal and the long staple variety at ₹8,667 per quintal. Chugh said the revised MSP structure would provide major relief and gains to the farming community. He credited the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for what he described as consistent support to farmers.
He also criticized the Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab, alleging that it had failed to address farmers’ concerns. He said farmers in the state would benefit more under policies supported by the BJP and called for stronger MSP-based procurement systems.
Chugh further appealed to voters in Punjab to support the BJP, claiming that it would ensure better agricultural infrastructure and wider procurement of crops at minimum support prices.
