The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Thursday announced that it has no update on former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s plans to stay in India after her sudden departure from Bangladesh. In a weekly briefing, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal mentioned that the situation in Bangladesh is still evolving. He also emphasised the importance of security amid reports of attacks on Hindu minorities during ongoing unrest Sheikh Hasina stepped down as Prime Minister on August 5 after student protests over job quotas turned violent, resulting in the loss of lives. The Bangladesh Army gave Hasina a 45-minute ultimatum to resign, forcing her to flee to India for safety along with her sister.
