If we delve deeper, books are not just the inked pages; they are a way to increase your emotional intelligence, regulate your mind, and control stress and anxiety. In numerous studies, it has been proven that reading is a wonderful effort that regulates your mind. A study by the University of Sussex (2019) found that reading for only 6 minutes reduces stress levels by 68 percent.
A study of science (2013) found that fiction reading helps improve the ability of participants to understand and interpret the emotions of others. Reading helps stimulate the mind, helps with focusing, improves memory, creates critical thinking, and makes the mind more active, the Free Press Journal reported.
According to research by the National Library of Medicine (NIH), long-term cognitive decline risk was found to be lower in older persons with frequent reading activities across all educational levels.
Books help you understand yourself better at several levels, including knowing your goals, values, and beliefs, which leads to personal development. A 2010 study published in the Journal of Applied Social Psychology found that reading self-help books significantly increased participants’ life satisfaction and sense of well-being.
