Shimla, May 20
The Meteorological Department in Shimla on Tuesday issued a yellow warning for heat wave conditions in Kangra and Solan districts on Wednesday, with Solan expected to remain under alert on Thursday as well. The weather office has also forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds in several parts of Himachal Pradesh over the next two days.
According to officials, a yellow alert for thunderstorms and gusty winds of 40 to 50 kmph has been issued for isolated areas in Chamba, Kangra, and Kullu districts on Thursday and Friday. Similar weather conditions are likely in Mandi and Shimla districts on Friday.
The weather across most parts of the state remained largely dry during the past 24 hours since Monday evening. Bhuntar recorded 19 mm of rainfall, while Manali received traces.
Kukumseri in the Lahaul and Spiti district recorded the state’s lowest minimum temperature at 6.1 degrees Celsius. Una was the hottest place during the day with a maximum temperature of 43.4 degrees Celsius. Neri also recorded high temperatures as the mercury crossed the 40 degree mark and settled at 41.2 degrees Celsius.
The weather office has advised people in the affected districts to take precautions against heatwave conditions and to remain alert during thunderstorms and strong winds.
