Former Haryana minister Anil Vij stated that he has never sought any specific political position or post, highlighting logistical constraints that prevent him from visiting Delhi regularly. In an interview with The Tribune, Vij said, “I never nurtured any aspiration to be the Chief Minister. You have to lobby with the party high command for the post of Chief Minister. I have never lobbied for any post. In fact, even the post of MLA was thrust upon me.” He broke his silence on not joining the Saini government as a Cabinet Minister, denying that he did so “in protest.” the news outlet reported.

Vij, who was reportedly annoyed with the BJP after Nayab Singh Saini was named as Manohar Lal Khattar’s successor, earned the nickname ‘Gabbar’ while in the ML Khattar Cabinet. He claimed that he had already requested the then-CM to relieve him of the ministership so he could devote more time to his Assembly segment, according to the news outlet.

While asserting that he maintains “cordial relations” with Chief Minister Khattar, Anil Vij emphasized his right to express his views within a democratic framework. Vij praised Khattar as the most effective Chief Minister in Haryana’s history, noting his efforts to eliminate nepotism in government positions and ensure a transparent administration that emphasizes merit-based job allocation. Vij also highlighted Khattar’s significant role at the Center as a Union Minister, The Tribune further reported.
