Panchkula, May 27
Haryana Energy Minister Anil Vij on Wednesday carried out a surprise inspection at the electricity department’s call center in Sector 20, Panchkula, to review the handling of consumer complaints and the response mechanism for resolving power-related issues. During the visit, Vij interacted directly with complainants calling the center and seeking details about the time taken by the electricity department to resolve faults after receiving complaints.
Officials said the call center receives electricity-related complaints from various districts across Haryana and forwards them to concerned field officers for resolution. Vij inspected the system’s functioning without prior notice and even registered a complaint himself while posing as a consumer. He later stated that he did not receive the expected response or action on the complaint, raising concerns over delays in grievance redressal.
Speaking to mediapersons, Vij said the state has separate call centers for north and south Haryana, which operate round the clock. Consumers can register complaints by calling the 1912 helpline. He said some complainants expressed satisfaction with the timely action, while others reported delays in resolving their issues.
The minister also reviewed pending complaints from different districts and directed officials to ensure that public grievances are resolved on priority. Referring to Morni, Vij said he spoke to the concerned Superintending Engineer after receiving information about a power disruption in the area and instructed officials to immediately send staff to restore the electricity supply.
Highlighting concerns about delayed responses in some regions, Vij said nearly 2,200 complaints were pending in the Rohtak circle, with many still unresolved. He added that additional staff would be deployed if required to ensure faster complaint disposal and better consumer service.
