Shimla, June 17
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast unsettled weather across Himachal Pradesh until June 19, with warnings of rain, thunderstorms, lightning, strong winds, and hailstorms in several parts of the state. An Orange Alert has been issued for June 18 in five districts due to the possibility of hailstorms.
According to the Meteorological Centre in Shimla, rainfall activity is expected to continue across the state over the next few days. Scientist Sandeep Sharma said an Orange Alert has been issued for Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi and Shimla districts on June 18, where hailstorms are likely.
The weather department stated that a fresh western disturbance will become active over Himachal Pradesh from June 18, leading to intermittent rainfall across the state until June 20.
Officials said Himachal Pradesh has so far recorded nearly 5 percent below-normal rainfall in June. Weather experts attributed the ongoing rainfall to a seasonal trough extending from Punjab to Bihar, which is influencing weather conditions across the northern plains and Himachal Pradesh.
Despite the rainfall, no significant change in temperatures has been recorded across the state, according to the meteorological department.
