Srinagar, April 8
A fresh spell of snowfall brought a wintry feel back to the higher reaches of Kashmir on Wednesday, with Gulmarg and parts of north Kashmir turning white again, while steady rain soaked Srinagar and several areas across the valley. The meteorological department said the changing weather is likely to persist until April 10. Light to moderate rain is expected in the plains, while the upper reaches may continue to receive snowfall. Some areas could also witness heavier showers or moderate snow by Thursday morning, along with thunderstorms, hail and strong winds.
Fresh snowfall was reported from Gulmarg as well as higher areas of Kupwara and Bandipora districts. At the same time, Srinagar and other low-lying parts of the valley remained under intermittent rainfall through the day.
The weather office said scattered rain or thundershowers may continue on Thursday and Friday before conditions improve. From 11 April to 16 April, the weather is likely to stay largely dry, though a few places may still get brief showers later in the day.
Officials have urged caution, warning that sudden heavy rainfall in vulnerable areas could lead to flash floods, landslides and waterlogging in low-lying locations.
