Chandigarh, September 5
Just a day after the BJP released its first list of candidates, Lakshman Napa, the MLA from Ratia, resigned from the party’s primary membership. This was following the exclusion of his name from the first list of 67 candidates who would be contesting in the upcoming Haryana Assembly elections. The Haryana Assembly elections are scheduled for October 5. Shortly after the list was released, Napa wrote a letter to state party chief Mohan Lal Badoli, expressing his decision to leave the party. In another development in the BJP, the party has decided to address anti-incumbency by introducing new faces for six out of seven assembly seats in the Rohtak and Jhajjar districts. Manish Grover, a senior BJP leader and former minister closely associated with former CM Manohar Lal Khattar, is a leading contender for the Rohtak ticket.
The BJP has nominated Deepak Niwas Hooda, the former captain of the Indian Kabaddi team, for the Meham seat, who had been actively engaging with the constituency for several months. This nomination has caused friction within the party in Meham as senior leader Shamsher Kharkara had hoped to see his wife Radha Ahlawat as the BJP candidate.
Renu Dabla, former chairperson of Rohtak Municipal Corporation, will represent the BJP from the Kalanaur (reserve) constituency. Manju Hooda, the chairperson of the Rohtak Zila Parishad, has been chosen as the candidate in Garhi Sampla-Kiloi. Former JJP leader Sanjay Kablana, who joined the BJP just three days prior, has been selected for the Beri assembly seat in Jhajjar.
