New Delhi, June 10
The Union Cabinet on Wednesday passed a resolution congratulating Prime Minister Narendra Modi after he became India’s longest-serving continuously elected prime minister, completing 4,399 consecutive days in office and surpassing the record held by India’s first prime minister, Jawaharlal Nehru.
Describing 10 June 2026 as a historic day in India’s democratic journey, the Cabinet said the milestone reflected public trust, democratic participation and sustained support for Modi’s leadership. The resolution said that the achievement coincides with the completion of 12 years of NDA rule under Modi and comes as he approaches 25 years in public office as head of government, including his tenure as Gujarat chief minister.
Cabinet ministers said Modi’s leadership had been marked by a focus on governance, welfare and economic development. The resolution highlighted initiatives aimed at expanding access to housing, electricity, drinking water and direct benefit transfers, while also citing food assistance and healthcare schemes for millions of people across the country.
The document credited government programmes with helping improve living standards and reducing poverty, while also emphasising efforts to empower women, farmers and young people. It pointed to the growth of India’s startup ecosystem, welfare schemes for rural communities and policies aimed at increasing women’s participation in public life.
The Cabinet also highlighted a number of major policy decisions and reforms undertaken during Mr Modi’s tenure, including the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST), the abrogation of Article 370, the One Rank One Pension (OROP) scheme, changes to criminal laws and labour reforms.
On national security, the Cabinet resolution praised the government’s response to terrorism and its efforts to strengthen India strategic position. It also referred to peace initiatives in the North-East and measures aimed at boosting domestic manufacturing through programmes such as Make in India and Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
The Cabinet further highlighted India’s growing international profile, citing the country’s G20 presidency, the promotion of International Yoga Day, the International Solar Alliance and other global initiatives.
The Cabinet members also extended their congratulations and best wishes to the Prime Minister expressing confidence in his vision of developed India by 2047 and reaffirming support for policies aimed at economic growth, social inclusion and national development.
The resolution also wished Modi good health and a long life, describing his political journey as one shaped by public service and nation-building.
