Chandigarh, April 16
Six schools in Barnala and several in Chandigarh received bomb threat emails on Thursday, prompting a swift response from police and emergency services. Bomb disposal squads, dog squads, police teams, ambulances and fire brigade units were deployed to the sites. After thorough checks at all locations, officials confirmed that no explosives or suspicious objects were found.
Barnala Senior Superintendent of Police Mohd Sarfaraz Alam said, “After getting intimation about the threats, concerned officials, including anti-sabotage teams and police station teams, were activated. As a precautionary measure, all schools were checked, and the police force was also deployed outside schools.”
This incident follows a series of similar hoax threats targeting schools in Punjab and Haryana in recent weeks, including Patiala and Moga. In each case, bomb threat emails created panic, but investigations found nothing suspicious.
Authorities are treating these incidents as hoaxes but are continuing to take every threat seriously. Security has been tightened, and investigations are ongoing to identify the source of the emails.
