Patiala, June 11
Around 15 residents of Dogra Mohalla in Patiala, including several children, have reportedly fallen ill after allegedly consuming contaminated water, prompting health authorities and municipal officials to launch an investigation into a suspected jaundice outbreak in the locality.
According to local residents, people in the area had been suffering from illness for several days. They claimed that repeated complaints regarding the condition of the water supply had already been made to the Patiala Municipal Corporation.
Following the reports, teams from the Municipal Corporation visited the locality on Thursday morning and emptied water tanks in the area. Officials also collected water samples from several households for testing as part of the initial inquiry.
Six patients were admitted to Mata Kaushalya Hospital in Patiala for treatment.
Dr Kushaldeep Kaur of Mata Kaushalya Hospital said that the admitted patients were showing symptoms consistent with jaundice.
“Most of the affected individuals appear to have come under the impact of jaundice,” she said, adding that medical teams remain on alert following the preliminary findings.
Health officials have advised residents to remain cautious while further examination of the collected water samples is underway.
The incident has once again raised concerns over civic infrastructure and water supply management in Patiala. Last year, a sudden outbreak of diarrhoea was reported in the Arahi Majra area of the city, leading to criticism of the municipal administration’s handling of sanitation and public health issues.
Residents of Dogra Mohalla have now demanded swift action and a thorough investigation to prevent the situation from worsening.
