Harjot Bains highlights career-focused reforms in higher education

The Punjab Higher Education Department has introduced a series of initiatives to promote career-oriented education and provide employment opportunities under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann. Higher Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains highlighted these schemes, emphasizing the government’s commitment to enhancing higher education in the state.

Among the key initiatives is the Vocational and Skill Orientation Program, with a budget allocation of ₹3.25 crore, aimed at improving the employability of government college students. Similarly, the Career and Counseling Scheme, also supported by a ₹3.25 crore budget, provides career guidance and counseling services in government colleges. To prepare students for future employment, the Industrial Visit and Exposure Scheme has been launched with a budget of ₹2 crore, of which ₹33.44 lakh has already been disbursed. Additionally, the Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law in Patiala has been allocated ₹8.52 crore, with ₹5 crore already released to strengthen its infrastructure and academic offerings.

In a significant move to honor Punjab’s martyrs and inspire the youth, the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Chair was established at Guru Nanak Dev University during the 2023-24 financial year, with a budget provision of ₹1 crore.
