Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla emphasized India’s long-standing respect for international laws and its commitment to human rights at an event organized by the Institute of Constitutional and Parliamentary Studies (ICPS) on Tuesday. While addressing 135 diplomats from 83 countries, Birla highlighted that Indian laws uphold dignity, liberty, and equality, covering areas such as gender equality, environmental protection, and social welfare. He underscored India’s rich arbitration heritage and detailed the passing of three new criminal laws shaped by public input and technological advancements.
Birla noted that these legislative changes aim to align with the evolving nature of crime and uphold justice for all. He emphasized that India’s judicial system, viewed with deep public trust over the past 75 years, strengthens the democratic framework. He encouraged foreign diplomats to understand India’s legal system to enhance diplomatic ties and mutual comprehension.
The Speaker lauded India’s transparent and accountable legislative process, which has bolstered public confidence and driven societal progress. Highlighting gender equality as a foundational constitutional principle, Birla remarked that this aspect of Indian law serves as an inspiration globally.
