Shimla, June 29

The wife of the deceased Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (HPPCL) Chief Engineer, Vimal Negi, has sought action against two officials, IAS Harikesh Meena and Desraj, alleging that corruption-related facts surfaced during the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe, but no concrete action has been taken against them so far.

Kiran Negi met the Himachal Pradesh Governor on Monday along with representatives of the Himachal Tribal Public Rights Federation and submitted her demands regarding the case.

Kiran Negi said that the CBI investigation had revealed facts of corruption involving Harikesh Meena and Desraj. She alleged that despite this, no strict action had been initiated against the two officials so far. She further claimed that efforts were being made to protect certain individuals, creating obstacles in the family’s fight for justice.

Kiran Negi also alleged that Shimla Police attempted to destroy evidence during the investigation into the case. She demanded a fair inquiry into the matter and action against those found responsible.

She said the family would soon submit a separate complaint to the CBI regarding the corruption allegations against Harikesh Meena and Desraj. She expressed hope that the central agency would take appropriate action after examining the available facts.

The family has requested that the Governor ensure an impartial investigation, initiate legal action against the guilty officials, and take the necessary steps to deliver justice in the Vimal Negi case.

Kiran Negi, the wife of the late Vimal Negi, said the family wants accountability and a fair investigation into all aspects of the case.

Vimal Negi, the then Chief Engineer of HPPCL, went missing on 10 March 2025. His body was recovered from Gobind Sagar Lake in Bilaspur on 18 March.

After his disappearance, his wife had written to the Chief Minister alleging that her husband was being harassed by senior HPPCL officials, including the then Managing Director (MD) Harikesh Meena, Director Desraj, and other senior officers.

Following the complaint, an FIR was registered on the night of 19 March at the New Shimla Police Station, naming the then MD and Director as the alleged accused. On the same day, the government removed Harikesh Meena and Desraj from their posts.

However, dissatisfied with the police investigation, Vimal Negi’s family approached the Himachal Pradesh High Court seeking a CBI probe. After hearing the family’s petition, the High Court ordered the transfer of the investigation to the CBI on 23 May 2025.
