Shimla, June 27
Hundreds of cyclists participated in the Heritage Cycling Ride in Shimla on Friday, raising awareness about drug abuse while promoting fitness, healthy living, and an active lifestyle. The event was organised under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Saptah initiative by the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment in collaboration with the Shimla Cycling Association and the Himalayan Adventure Sports and Tourism Promotion Association (HASTPA).
Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi flagged off the cycling ride from the historic Ridge Ground in Shimla, marking the start of the awareness campaign to promote a healthier, drug-free society.
Addressing the participants, Shimla Cycling Association Secretary Mohit Sood said, “Cycling is not just a sport but a way of life.” He said such initiatives were helping build a strong cycling culture in Shimla and encouraging young people to channel their energy into sports, fitness, and outdoor activities rather than falling into the trap of drug abuse.
“Every young person who chooses a bicycle over addiction is a step toward a healthier and stronger Himachal,” Sood said.
The organisers said they would continue promoting cycling as a community movement through heritage rides, school outreach programmes, fitness campaigns, and sustainable mobility initiatives.
They expressed confidence that such efforts would inspire more youngsters to adopt healthy lifestyles and support the vision of a fit, green, and Nasha Mukt Himachal Pradesh.
