Couple dies after falling into gorge in Chamba

A couple lost their lives after falling into a gorge while returning to their village in Himachal Pradesh’s Chamba district, officials said on Thursday.

The deceased have been identified as Gaurakh Kumar, 33, and his wife Sushma, 26, both residents of Dawadi village in the district.

According to officials, the incident occurred while the couple was on their way home. Gaurakh reportedly lost his balance and fell into the gorge. Sushma attempted to rescue him but also slipped and fell into the gorge, resulting in the death of both.

Local residents noticed the incident and immediately informed the police. A police team reached the spot and, with the assistance of villagers, recovered the bodies. They were later shifted to a nearby hospital for postmortem examination. Police have confirmed the incident and said further investigation is underway to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the accident.
