Mansa, June 25

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Wednesday expressed confidence that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will secure a larger mandate in the 2027 Assembly elections, asserting that the government’s welfare initiatives and development-focused governance have strengthened public support across the state.

Addressing a Lok Milni programme at Dharampura village in the Budhlada Assembly constituency of Mansa district, Mann said the progress achieved during the last four years has increased people’s trust in the government. He claimed that public sentiment already indicates a return of AAP to power and predicted that the party would improve upon its performance in the 2022 Assembly elections.

The Chief Minister said his government has fulfilled its commitments and accelerated development in key sectors, including healthcare, education, electricity, infrastructure, and women’s welfare. He added that continuous efforts are being made to build a “Rangla Punjab” by addressing developmental gaps left by previous governments. Mann maintained that the AAP government is the first in the country to implement its election manifesto in its true spirit and convert public aspirations into policies and programmes.

Launching an attack on previous governments, he alleged that former chief ministers remained disconnected from ordinary citizens and prioritised personal interests over public welfare. He claimed that traditional political parties have lost public confidence due to their governance records. The Chief Minister also targeted opposition parties, including the Shiromani Akali Dal, Congress, and the Bharatiya Janata Party, alleging that they have united politically because they are unable to challenge AAP on governance and development.

Without naming any individual, Mann accused opposition leaders of spreading misinformation and attempting to damage his image through artificially generated videos and misleading campaigns. Reiterating his government’s stand on Punjab’s river water rights, Mann said the state had firmly opposed attempts by neighbouring states to claim Punjab’s share of water resources. He asserted that Punjab’s interests would continue to be protected at all costs.

Highlighting welfare measures, the Chief Minister said more than 90 percent of households in Punjab are receiving free electricity. He added that farmers are now getting daytime power supply, which has improved agricultural operations and productivity. Mann also referred to the state government’s acquisition of a private thermal power plant, describing it as an important step towards strengthening Punjab’s power sector. Speaking about healthcare, he said the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna is providing cashless medical treatment of up to ₹10 lakh to every resident family in the state. According to him, the scheme has already enabled free treatment worth over ₹650 crore and reduced the financial burden on thousands of families.

On women’s welfare, Mann announced that eligible beneficiaries will begin receiving direct financial assistance from July 1. Under the scheme, women from the general category will receive ₹1,000 per month, while those from the Scheduled Caste communities will receive ₹1,500 per month. He said nearly 97 percent of women in Punjab are expected to benefit from the initiative and that the government has allocated ₹9,300 crore for its implementation. Mann described the programme as a significant step towards enhancing financial independence, dignity, and self-respect among women.

The Chief Minister said that previous governments had failed to introduce such welfare measures and had neglected the aspirations of youth and weaker sections. He added that Punjab is steadily emerging as a leading state in healthcare, education, and entrepreneurship, citing initiatives such as the Sadak Surakhya Force, free electricity, and infrastructure development as examples of the government’s efforts to improve public services and drive economic growth.

Mann said the government remains committed to delivering people-centric governance and ensuring that development reaches every section of society as Punjab moves towards a stronger and more prosperous future.
