Janjgir-Champa (Chhattisgarh), June 22
A 23-year-old man from Punjab has been arrested in Chhattisgarh’s Janjgir-Champa district for allegedly maintaining contact with Pakistan-based ISI operatives and sharing sensitive information, police officials said.
The accused, Sevak Singh of Tarn Taran district, was taken into custody during a tenant verification drive conducted in Akaltara town. Police said he was living in a rented accommodation near Minimata Chowk when he came under scrutiny during the verification process.
According to Janjgir-Champa Superintendent of Police Vijay Kumar Pandey, a case has been registered against Singh at the Akaltara police station, and an investigation is underway.
Police claimed that an examination of the accused’s mobile phone revealed WhatsApp conversations, video call records, call recordings and other digital evidence indicating communication with individuals suspected to be linked to Pakistan-based ISI networks.
Investigators suspect that Singh may have shared details related to sensitive locations, prominent individuals, vehicles, and other information with foreign contacts. Officials said the authenticity and extent of the alleged information exchange are currently being verified.
The accused’s mobile phone has been sent for forensic analysis, while investigators continue to examine digital evidence and trace his contact network.
Police further stated that preliminary findings suggest Singh was in touch with persons linked to a Pakistan-backed ISI network and that discussions regarding the supply of weapons through cross-border channels surfaced during the probe. However, officials clarified that these aspects would be confirmed only after further investigation.
Authorities are now working to identify the accused’s associates, possible local contacts and the broader extent of the alleged network.
