Ludhiana, June 22
BJP president Nitin Nabin on Monday met noted agricultural economist and Padma Bhushan awardee Sardara Singh Johl at his Ludhiana residence and held discussions on key issues affecting Punjab’s agriculture sector, including crop diversification and farmers’ welfare. The meeting took place on the final day of Nabin’s three-day visit to Punjab, during which he toured Amritsar, Jalandhar and Ludhiana as part of the BJP’s outreach efforts ahead of the state’s upcoming Assembly elections.
In a post on X, Nabin described Johl as one of India’s foremost agricultural economists, highlighting his contributions as former Vice-Chancellor of Punjab Agricultural University and former chairman of the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices.
According to Nabin, the discussion focused on Punjab’s agricultural system, challenges faced by farmers, the need for crop diversification and measures to strengthen the sector’s long-term sustainability. Punjab BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon and state general secretary Anil Sarin were also present during the meeting.
Nabin’s visit comes as political parties intensify preparations for the next Assembly elections. During his tour, the BJP leader has sought to position agriculture, economic development and governance among the party’s key priorities for Punjab.
