Filmmaker Meghna Gulzar’s upcoming thriller Daayra, starring Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran, is scheduled for a theatrical release on September 18. Inspired by true events, the film explores themes of crime, justice and punishment while examining the complex relationship between law and accountability.
The makers announced that Daayra will arrive in cinemas worldwide on September 18. The film is positioned as a thought-provoking thriller that draws on real-life incidents and delves into issues of crime, justice,, and punishment.
Written by Yash Keswani, Sima Agarwal and Meghna Gulzar, the screenplay aims to present a layered narrative rooted in contemporary realities. According to the makers, the story will explore the fine line between law and justice, encouraging audiences to reflect on their perceptions of fairness, responsibility and retribution.
The film brings together Kareena Kapoor Khan and Malayalam actor Prithviraj Sukumaran on screen for the first time. Both actors portray police officers, making the project a notable cross-industry collaboration between two established performers.
The makers said Daayra will focus on the challenges and moral dilemmas faced within the justice system while presenting a narrative grounded in real-world concerns. The story is expected to raise questions about how justice is delivered and whether legal outcomes always align with public expectations.
Produced by Junglee Pictures and Pen Studios, the project also marks Meghna Gulzar’s third collaboration with Junglee Pictures following the critically acclaimed films Talvar and Raazi.
