Jhajjar (HR), June 15

A wanted criminal facing multiple cases of murder, attempted murder, and extortion was killed in an encounter with the Haryana Police Special Task Force in the Dujana area of Jhajjar district, officials said on Monday. The operation, carried out on Sunday, also left STF Bahadurgarh Unit in-charge Inspector Rakesh injured during the exchange of fire.

According to police, the STF acted on specific intelligence inputs and traced the accused, identified as Inderpal, a resident of Rohtak district. Officers asked him to surrender, but he allegedly opened fire on the police team. The STF retaliated, leading to an encounter in which the accused was killed. Police said Inderpal was wanted in several criminal cases, including murder, attempt to murder, extortion, and offences under the Arms Act.

Haryana Director General of Police Ajay Singhal said the state would not tolerate criminal activities and warned that anyone attempting to disrupt law and order would face strict action. He said Haryana Police continues to take effective and decisive measures against crime in line with the zero-tolerance approach of Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini.

Referring to recent operations, the DGP highlighted the successful rescue of a kidnapped child in Panipat and the STF action in Jhajjar as examples of the force’s vigilance, professional capability and technological preparedness. Singhal said the message to criminals is clear: the rule of law remains supreme in Haryana, and all criminal activities will be dealt with firmly and effectively.

He added that Haryana Police will continue sustained operations against organized crime, gangster networks and individuals involved in serious offenses to maintain peace, public safety and law and order across the state. The injured STF officer is receiving medical treatment, while police continue with further legal and procedural action related to the encounter.
