Chandigarh, June 11
A 26-year-old gym owner was shot dead by two unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants during a morning fitness session in Haryana’s Hansi on Thursday, police said. The attack took place near Fawara Chowk when the victim was conducting an outdoor exercise class for a small group of participants.
According to police, the deceased, identified as Kapil, a resident of a village in Jind district, was leading a workout session for six to seven people at around 5.30 am when the assailants arrived on a motorcycle.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Vinod Shankar said one of the attackers got off the motorcycle and opened fire on Kapil. Preliminary information suggests that around 10 rounds were fired before the accused fled the spot.
Police said Kapil operated a fitness centre in Hansi and had recently shifted his business to a new location in the same area.
CCTV footage of the incident has been recovered and is being examined as part of the investigation. The footage reportedly shows Kapil instructing participants during a workout session when two men arrived on a motorcycle. The rider was wearing a helmet, while the pillion rider had covered his face with a cloth and was wearing a white cap.
The video allegedly shows the pillion rider getting off the motorcycle and opening fire at Kapil. The victim is seen turning around before collapsing after being struck by multiple bullets. The attackers then escaped from the scene.
Kapil was immediately taken to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Police said the motive behind the killing remains unclear and investigations are underway. Efforts have been launched to identify and arrest the accused.
Officials also said Kapil’s family informed investigators that he had entered into a court marriage nearly three years ago. Police teams are analysing CCTV footage and other evidence as part of the ongoing probe into the murder.
