Panchkula, May 28
The Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory (TBRL) at Ramgarh in Haryana’s Panchkula district will conduct a high-calibre bomb trial on May 31, prompting authorities to issue a public advisory for nearby villages.
According to an official communication issued by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO)-run TBRL, the test will take place between 10:30 am and 12:30 pm at the TBRL test range in Ramgarh. The trial is expected to be conducted in the presence of senior Indian Air Force officials.
The advisory warned that fragments generated during the explosion could rise up to an altitude of around 1.5 kilometres and spread within a radius of nearly two kilometres from the point of burst.
In view of the potential splinter risk, villages Bhanu and Billa have been identified as danger zones during the testing period. The local administration has been asked to ensure that residents of these villages remain indoors during the scheduled time to avoid any untoward incident.
The communication, issued to the Deputy Commissioner of Panchkula by TBRL, also directed authorities to make necessary safety arrangements on priority. Apart from Bhanu and Billa, the advisory has also been circulated among nearby areas including Asrewali, Naggal, Moginand, Kishangarh, TMV Colony and Ramgarh.
Authorities have appealed to residents not to pay attention to rumours and to strictly follow safety instructions issued by the administration.
