Chandigarh, April 20
Punjab Police on Monday said it has busted a narcotics and illegal arms module in Hoshiarpur with the arrest of four persons and seizure of a significant quantity of drugs and weapons.
According to Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav, the operation led to the recovery of 9.925 kg of heroin along with two foreign-made pistols, eight magazines, and 40 live cartridges. “In a major breakthrough, District Hoshiarpur Police busted an inter-state and foreign-linked narcotics and illegal arms module and apprehended four accused,” he said.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused were working as local handlers for foreign-based gangsters involved in drug trafficking and illegal arms supply, the DGP said.
An FIR has been registered at the Garhshankar police station in Hoshiarpur in connection with the case. Police officials said efforts are underway to trace the wider network linked to the accused. Further investigation is in progress to establish forward and backward linkages and to dismantle the entire module, officials added.
