Tehran/Islamabad, April 17
Iran on Friday said that the strategic Strait of Hormuz remains fully open to commercial shipping following a temporary ceasefire linked to tensions in the Middle East. In a message shared on social media, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that all commercial vessels can pass through the vital waterway without restriction during the remaining period of the ceasefire. The announcement comes after Donald Trump said a 10-day ceasefire had been agreed between Israel and Lebanon, raising hopes of easing regional tensions that have unsettled global trade routes.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical shipping lanes, through which a significant share of global oil supplies passes.
