Ranjit Singh Gill, a prominent realtor from Gillco Valley and halqa incharge of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) in Kharar, resigned from the party’s primary membership on Friday, citing disillusionment and neglect of grassroots workers. Gill, who unsuccessfully contested Assembly elections in 2017 and 2022, expressed concern over the party’s ideological direction. He said the induction of individuals unfamiliar with Akali values had demoralised long-time supporters.
“The leadership has remained silent on core religious issues such as sacrilege and the pardon granted to the Dera Sacha Sauda chief,” Gill told reporters, urging a rollback of controversial SGPC decisions. He also criticised the removal of local Jathedars without consultation and being sidelined from internal committees. While political observers suggest he may join the BJP, Gill said no decision has been made so far.
