Chandigarh, April 28
Two people were shot dead and another sustained injuries after unidentified assailants opened fire on them in Punjab’s Batala late Monday night, police said. The incident occurred in Bhoma village, under the Sri Hargobindpur subdivision, when the victims were out for a walk.
Senior Superintendent of Police Mehtab Singh said the attackers fired at three individuals, killing Kashmir Singh and Jugraj Singh on the spot. Another person, also identified as Jugraj Singh, was injured and admitted to a hospital for treatment.
“Preliminary investigation has found no angle of extortion or any prior threat call in this case,” the SSP said. He added that CCTV footage from the area is being examined to trace those involved.
Police said teams have been deployed and efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the accused. “Our teams are working on this case,” Singh said. The incident has raised concerns over safety in the area, with police intensifying the investigation and assuring swift action against those responsible.
