Two Pimpri-Chinchwad residents tested positive for Zika virus on Friday, confirmed by the National Institute of Virology (NIV). Additionally, eight more cases were reported in Pune district, as reported by The Hindustan Times
A 24-year-old man from Nigdi and a 34-year-old man from Pimple Gurav are stable and receiving treatment. PCMC health officer Laxman Gophane stated that surveillance and a five-kilometre radius survey around the patients’ residences are underway, prioritizing pregnant women.
Since July 20, Pune district has reported 65 Zika cases. On Friday, six new cases were in Pune city, including three pregnant women, and two in rural areas. The PMC sent 41 samples of suspected pregnant women for testing.
