Shimla, May 19
A 24-year-old woman died and four members of her family were injured after their car fell into a deep gorge in the Kandaghat area of Himachal Pradesh’s Solan district on Tuesday, police said.
According to police, the accident occurred on the Kandaghat–Chail link road while the family was travelling to Solan. The deceased has been identified as Pooja, aged 24. The injured include her father, Tota Ram and family members Sunita, Kaushalya and Nirmala, all residents of Koti village in Solan district.
Police said the accident occurred near Dochi village, where the driver, Tota Ram, reportedly lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer off the road and fall into a deep gorge. Pooja died on the spot, while the remaining occupants sustained serious injuries.
Local residents alerted the authorities after noticing the accident. Police and locals carried out a rescue operation and shifted the injured to Civil Hospital Kandaghat. They were later referred to the Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital in Shimla for further treatment.
Solan Superintendent of Police SD Varma said a case has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
