Shimla, June 23
Himachal Pradesh Governor Kavinder Gupta paid a floral tribute to former Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh on his birth anniversary at his statue located at the Ridge ground in Shimla. Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh, the late leader’s son, was also present during the tribute programme.
Virbhadra Singh, who served as the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh six times, was remembered across the state on his birth anniversary. Governor Gupta said that Virbhadra Singh had made a significant contribution to both state and national politics and worked for the development of Himachal Pradesh beyond caste, community, and regional differences.
“Virbhadra Singh was a personality who dedicated his entire life to the development of Himachal Pradesh. He worked above politics of discrimination, casteism and regionalism and ensured equal development in all areas,” Governor Gupta said.
The Governor added that Virbhadra Singh becoming Chief Minister six times reflected his stature as a major political leader. He also expressed hope that Vikramaditya Singh would continue to serve the state by following in his father’s footsteps.
Meanwhile, Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh said he was working to uphold Virbhadra Singh’s principles and vision. He said his father’s focus on equal development would continue to guide his own work for the overall progress of Himachal Pradesh.
Vikramaditya Singh said that on the occasion of Virbhadra Singh’s birth anniversary, several programmes, including blood donation camps, free medical check-up camps and fruit distribution drives, were being organised at different places across the state.
Congress workers and supporters also paid tribute to the former Chief Minister and remembered his development initiatives and contribution to Himachal Pradesh.
