Virat Kohli has been fined 20 percent of his match fee and received one demerit point for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct, the International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed. The incident occurred during the Melbourne Test on day one, following an altercation with Australia debutant,Sam Konstas where Kohli made physical contact by bumping his shoulder. The exchange escalated, with Usman Khawaja intervening to diffuse the situation.
Article 2.12 of the ICC Code of Conduct addresses inappropriate physical contact during an international match. Kohli accepted the sanction proposed by Match Referee Andy Pycroft, meaning no formal hearing was necessary. The charge was brought by on-field umpires Joel Wilson and Michael Gough, along with third umpire Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid and fourth umpire Shawn Craig.
