New Delhi, July 18
The United States designated The Resistance Front (TRF), a Pakistan-based militant group, as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) and Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT). The TRF, widely believed to be a front for Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), had claimed responsibility for the Pahalgam terror attack in April 2025, which killed 26 civilians — the deadliest such attack since the 2008 Mumbai attacks.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the decision underscored the administration’s commitment to fighting terrorism and bringing justice to the victims of the Pahalgam incident.
The move is being seen in New Delhi as a diplomatic success, aligning with India’s long-standing claims that Pakistan harbours and supports terror proxies targeting Indian civilians and security forces. TRF and its aliases have been added under the US Immigration and Nationality Act and Executive Order 13224, freezing their assets under US jurisdiction and banning American individuals or entities from any transactions with the group.
