Panchkula, June 17
Two accused sustained bullet injuries to their legs during a police encounter near Barwala Industrial Area on Wednesday morning while being pursued in connection with a kidnapping and robbery case reported in Pinjore, police said.
According to officials, the accused allegedly opened fire on a police team during an operation based on a specific tip-off. Police retaliated, injuring both suspects. The injured men were admitted to the Civil Hospital in Sector 6 for treatment.
The accused have been identified as Deepesh, a resident of Charkhi Dadri, and Yogesh, a resident of Bhiwani. Police also recovered a pistol from their possession.
Sources claimed that one of the accused may have links to the Rohit Godara gang, although officials have not yet confirmed the connection.
The case relates to the alleged abduction and robbery of Manjinder Singh, a resident of Pinjore, on the evening of June 15. Police said four youths allegedly kidnapped him from the HMT area at knifepoint and forced him into a Scorpio vehicle.
The accused reportedly drove the victim around on the highway and robbed him of ₹12,000 in cash, his mobile phone, and additional money through online transactions. They also allegedly used the victim’s mobile phone to pay for fuel and obtain further cash.
After the robbery, the suspects allegedly abandoned the victim near Barwala Grain Market and fled the scene.
The investigation was being conducted by the Crime Branch Sector 19 team. Police had arrested two accused late on Tuesday night and were searching for the remaining suspects when Wednesday’s encounter took place.
Officials said the police team reached Barwala after a secret tip-off about the accused’s whereabouts. During the operation, the suspects allegedly fired at the police, prompting retaliatory action in which both were injured.
Police said further investigation is underway, and efforts are continuing to trace the remaining accused. Authorities are expected to provide a detailed briefing on the case soon.
