The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has released the findings of an Independent Drive Test (IDT) conducted across Palampur city and the Chandigarh-Palampur highway route within the Himachal Pradesh Licensed Service Area (HP LSA) to assess the quality of mobile network services offered by telecom operators.

The drive test, carried out in March 2026, aimed to evaluate real time performance of voice and data services provided by Telecom Service Providers (TSPs). Key Quality of Service parameters assessed during the exercise included network coverage, Call Drop Rate, Call Setup Success Rate, data download speed, and upload throughput.

According to TRAI, the exercise was conducted to provide telecom consumers with transparent information about network performance and to encourage service providers to further improve service quality.

The tests covered 197.4 kilometers of city drive routes, five hotspot locations, and 1.6 kilometers of walk test routes in Palampur and nearby areas. In addition, a 242.1-kilometer stretch along the Chandigarh-Palampur highway corridor was assessed between March 10 and March 13, 2026.

TRAI said the drive tests involved live voice and data sessions using SIM cards from all telecom operators across 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G networks. Advanced testing devices and software systems were used to monitor and analyze network performance in real time.

The exercise was conducted by TRAI’s appointed agency under the supervision of the regulator’s Regional Office in Delhi. TRAI clarified that the observations reflect network performance in the tested areas and routes at the specific time and date when the assessments were carried out.
