Shimla, June 22

Shimla MP Suresh Kashyap chaired the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting at Bachat Bhawan, where progress of 40 central and state government schemes was reviewed. The MP directed officials to complete pending works under the MGNREGA and MP Local Area Development (MPLAD) schemes within a week and to expedite the remaining Smart City projects.

Kashyap said that improvement was visible in the officials’ work after the previous meeting. He instructed departments to submit actual field-based data and status reports during reviews, rather than relying solely on records.

“Officials were instructed earlier to visit the field and bring actual data and status reports to the next meeting. The progress of departments, including electricity and agriculture, has been satisfactory,” Kashyap said.

The meeting included detailed discussions on key schemes and projects, including the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), the Jal Jeevan Mission, the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana, the RDSS, smart meters, and Smart City works.

The MP directed officials to review all pending MGNREGA and MPLAD projects and complete them at the earliest. The Public Works Department (PWD) was also instructed to repair roads damaged by heavy rainfall, especially PMGSY roads, before the monsoon season to avoid large-scale damage as in previous years.

Addressing allegations from the state government regarding the Center’s non-release of Rs 1,500 crore, Kashyap said that adequate funds were being provided under central schemes. He said delays occur when states fail to submit Utilisation Certificates (UCs) or Completion Certificates on time, as these documents are required before further funds are released.

He added that the Center had provided assistance to Himachal Pradesh for losses caused by heavy rainfall and had approved more than 94,000 houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.

On complaints related to smart meters, Kashyap said check meters had been installed to verify issues. He said only a few cases of increased bills or irregularities had been reported after the installation of smart meters, and that they had been resolved promptly.

Reacting to allegations of theft of donations related to the Ram Temple, Kashyap said a committee had been formed to examine the matter. He added that strict action would be taken against anyone found to be involved in theft or misappropriation.
