Shimla , June 11
The Students’ Federation of India (SFI) on Thursday staged a protest on Shimla’s Mall Road over the alleged NEET paper leak controversy, demanding accountability from the Center and the National Testing Agency (NTA). Several activists were later detained by police after the demonstration led to a confrontation with law enforcement personnel.
Raising slogans against the Central government and the NTA, SFI members alleged that irregularities in the NEET examination had jeopardized the future of lakhs of students across the country. The protesters claimed that repeated incidents of examination leaks and alleged misconduct had weakened public trust in the examination system.
The student organization demanded immediate action against those responsible for the alleged lapses and called for the dissolution of the NTA. SFI leaders also called for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, stating that accountability must be held for the alleged failures in conducting examinations fairly.
The protest took place on Mall Road, where prohibitory orders under Section 163 were in force. Police personnel attempted to stop the demonstration and remove the protesters from the area. This led to a heated exchange and brief scuffles between activists and police officials.
After a prolonged standoff, police detained several SFI workers and shifted them from the protest site in buses. The situation was later brought under control.
SFI leaders warned that the agitation would be intensified if their demands were not addressed. The organization announced plans to hold a larger protest outside Parliament on June 19, claiming that students and youth from across the country would participate in the demonstration to demand greater transparency and accountability in the examination system.
