Shimla, May 26
The Himachal Pradesh government has appointed Sanjay Gupta as the state’s new Chief Secretary, just days before his retirement at the end of this month. Orders confirming his appointment were issued by the state personnel department on Tuesday. Gupta had been serving as acting Chief Secretary while also holding charge of the Town and Country Planning Department.
The 1988-batch IAS officer is due to retire on 30 May, a day earlier than scheduled as 31 May falls on a Sunday.
The appointment is being seen as a final promotion for the senior bureaucrat before retirement.
Meanwhile, Cooperation Secretary Amarjeet has been given additional charge of the Town and Country Planning Department following Gupta’s elevation.
